To be fair, a lot of the woke people back then were the punk rockers back in the 80's and 90's and now they've became "The Man" once they got into established positions of power (kinda like the hippies of the 1960's that were against "The Man" but became corporate yuppies by the 1980's).

In the old days it was conservatives being autocrats because they were the "No Fun Allowed" Bible thumpers that wanted everything to line up with Christianity and the Right paid the price when they supported George W. Bush in the 2000's but proved to be an unpopular man (War on Terror and Dubya supporting corrupt organized religion) which lead to the progressivism we saw later on.

The Right were shitheads but it's not like the Left is any much better either.
