Removing the thread isn't a guarantee for helping Byuu if he really was that worked up. If Josh had privated or deleted it then there would have been an initial furor about it going missing. It would have settled down eventually but in the mean time Byuu would have gotten a lot more of the attention he didn't want which would definitely have made things worse for him. The only way out for him was to stop posting face, abandon that identity, and then start fresh with a new user name after lying low for six months.
The problem with depressives is that they have to want to get better, otherwise they refuse to even acknowledge that there is a way out for them. They run away from hope because it's more comfortable to live in emotional squalor. Byuu just wanted to be on the internet forever. He didn't want to live in the real world where none of this shit matters. He didn't want to log off even when it meant getting a lot of negative attention and having to interact with Null and KF.
The internet is really bad for us but its especially bad for people like Byuu who won't regulate their own intake of internet content and are unable to distance themselves emotionally from people being assholes. It's a lot like junk food that way.
