So long as Jason Schrier is getting paid to write exposes on vidya game companies for IGN and Kotaku, there is a video game journalism complex. There have been changes yes but what actually happened is that those Youtubers have created their own corrupt media mini fiefdoms (like Downward Thrust when he makes videos shilling for Star Citizen because he doesn't want to admit he's become part of an MLM video game scheme) or Youtube video game channels become extensions of media networks that have those journalism companies as investors. Those official journalism outlets are still very important and get a lot of traffic, Yoshi-P from Square Enix regularly does interviews with American game journalist outlets and that's the second most popular MMO in the entire world.

GG's toxicity spread everywhere and managed to ruin the passing of a good man because everyone made his death about Gamergate instead of mourning his passing.

I cannot stress enough how much GG failed. No one managed to do anything except post mean things to the internet. And that's fun I get it but it's not activism. GG was about as effective as a tumblr boycott of Israeli companies, AKA not effective at all.
