This was a dramatic renactment of a weekly occurence in the Moon household when Josh was a kid.
Though the thing that brought me to KF was lolcows, I only kept tabs on a handful of them. What kept me there was the non-lolcow stuff. TBH the green forums never really kept my interest for very long, and the signal-to-bullshit ratio was through the roof. Red forums weren't as bad, except A&N which had it's own special kind of resident retards.
I made a lot of posts and started some threads about technology on KF. It's easily half of my 1000 posts there. The blue forums were thriving when I was last active there and easily the part I miss the most about KF. I remember there were a decent number of intelligent and thoughtful people there (blue forums) and not too many shitheads.
A problem KF has is that @Null bans anyone who thinks for themselves, and those are largely the people who make quality non-lolcow content.
I don't know much about SA but if it's anything like what I miss from KF, then maybe I should join

Scout SA before buying an account, they take the paywall down more frequently these days so you can take a good look at Serious Hardware/Software Crap, Ask/Tell, Cavern of COBOL, etc. The only thing about SA is that they skew left the same way KF skews right so they assume you buy into programmer socks and the like. If you like what you see though you can buy a basic account and just lurk. Lots of people do.
The culture is insular because of all the olds but at least they have their own forums culture.
