I would argue that the opposite is true. The more equal a society becomes the wider the gap between the genders and their social norms. This is something Nordic sociologists have been fighting with for decades with no solution in sight except brainwashing.

But I do think you are right about Joshes performative masculinity and as you said I think it comes from a sense of helplessness. I have heard him sperg many times about buying a farm and an old diesel truck. In all fairness, I don't wish any harm on Kiwibros. The one's that have been brainwashed by Josh are pretty similar to Juggalos in that they're disaffected+looking for community and they've found their Violent Gay in Josh.

Of course any physical labor is off the table for Null just for a start like come on buddy do you really think you could make it as a farmer getting up at 430am(If you are lucky) every day just to do backbreaking labor and muck out animal poop from their stalls and pens. But you are really on point with the self reliance part. Null needs a whole forum just for emotional support. The independence, initiative and grit required to farm are something that Null doesn't posses. Besides like you said you need to have a modicum of mechanical ability to be a farmer From being able to work with large farm equipment, to the farm truck right down to some of the small engine equipment you might use on a farm. I worked on one as a teenager and I consider it no shame to say that I probably couldn't even do it and I'm far more used to physical work and mental independence than Null is.

I can't even watch most streamers because I keep seeing how they can't even play the game right. I see a streamer playing a game I've played before, let alone that I've enjoyed, and they just keep making the stupidest mistakes and acting like the game is shit for it, and it doesn't help that so many of them try too hard (or even too little) when interacting with the chat. For me, I can't stand a lot of them. Vinny from Vinesauce always sounds like he'd rather be doing anything else, Joel tries way too hard, and Jerma et al all follow suit. Panoots seemed okay, but I got turned off when I saw him play a Harry Potter game and literally streamed it with obvious technical issues instead of just googling an easily avaliable patch in five seconds beforehand. Maybe that's petty on my part, but when you keep pointing out "IT'S GOING TOO FAST GUYS WHAT DO I DO?!" over and over again, maybe it's time to look for a patch?

I think streaming peaked with the Jesus Chatline, but even that went downhill: Richard Burnish banned one of the long time callers (the guy who did Hans Peter and Randall) because of an off color joke he made.

Read the comments - Richard literally ghosted one of the best parts of his old show. He puts out this lame PR BS to cover his ass and forgets all about it, despite the fact such jokes were what made the OG show (and himself) famous in the process. And it doesn't help that his new show started declining fast; the new characters he's brought in were downright awful, like the stereotypical old fart who kept calling in and droning and on and on and fucking on. I once came across a post from someone who claimed to work on his own farm. He described a convoluted water purification system he set up so that he could safely use his water source. It was a clever set up but it was totally DIY and when something breaks he has to figure it out himself. That's the kind of mindset you have to have when living and working off grid. I couldn't do it. It's a hard lifestyle. It would be good for Josh but I doubt he could hack it.

I think a lot of this anti-fun stuff is a result of monetization. Most of these people would pack it in and return to working at Best Buy or GameStop if there wasn't a financial incentive. It's rare to find anyone working on a passion project and even when a monetized content maker is pretty decent you know they're sperging over their YT analytics and figuring out how to cast a wider net instead of how to make their content better.
It's why I enjoy Godwinson and all the sektur runts. They're not fully divorced from money but they don't have whales or adsense to cuck their content for.
