That thread is indicative of a slice of the site's culture which is deeply flawed that will likely never be officially addressed.
 
There are problems with having such a nice and concise original post for lolcow threads. Generally what keeps them alive and keeps the comments fresh, new and interesting is a drip feed of content. It's bad for those interacting with a thread years later having all that information spread out. Nowadays most lolcow threads are a content desert and everyone's repeating the same goddamn thing that's been said dozens of times before.

The highlight function, while flawed, is probably one of the best features Null has added to the site.

A neat idea I saw on the yandere simulator clones and fangames thread was that the thread poster would make update posts and link them back to the OP, so that all of the relevant information could be accessed from the OP. The only real problem with the idea is that it requires the thread OP poster to be active when they may not necessarily be, so it can't really be a standard.

Also, unupdated OPs were quite an issue down the line. While not an issue now, perhaps we could have a system for requesting control of a thread OP if the user hasn't logged in for a couple months, or doesn't want it anymore?

I don't see why such a feature couldn't be partially automated. Add a little alert in the post box that marks it as an update. You could even make it part of some kind of voting attached to each post. If someone abuses the system they'd be warned or thread banned. However, it would mean someone would have to go through all the posts marked that way before approving them.

At most perhaps a PoI tag. The people desperate for a thread want to drive a final nail through the A&N crowd. A thread on MrJokerRager is an indictment against that entire segment of the site.

Here's a solution... Nuke A&N. And this is coming from someone who joined KiwiFarms SPECIFICALLY for A&N.

If A&N is really that big of a bother like people on the site say (including Josh) then why keep it around any longer? Why put up fucking notices on the front page that are equivalent to an attention whore that keeps talking about committing suicide but adds the line "I'm totally going to do it for reals you guys!!" each time?

Of course you're going to have people on A&N that sometimes want to browse and post outside of A&N, and yes sometimes you will wind up encountering people that can't grasp the concept (at least not immediately) that the behavior of A&N is not the same as the behavior on the rest of the site. One of two things (or both) should take place right after... either set that poster straight (either with a polite "fuck-off" or shitpost "faggot/kys") and/or just have the jannies do their fucking job and thread ban them if they get out of line. What you don't do is right after go on a fucking tirade talking about how "ALL" posters on A&N are bad because of this one faggot and then demand that they all stay in their one section and not post anywhere else on the site. Basically guilt by association... you're an A&N poster, you're one of the "bad" ones that is "ruining the site". Kinda fucking ironic they would say that, considering that's the exact kind of language and attitude that's used by the special snowflakes and other spergs that get made fun of on KF. You know, the kind of spergs that have the "you don't belong here if you're not one of us" mentality in such places like ResetEra.

The people on A&N do a fine job on their own moderating each other. I think that's part of the reason why It's HK-47 is passive on moderating it, in fact his Pastadome post clearly explains that.

Don't get me wrong though, I agree that politicizing every and any topic is fucking dumb and retarded. I've had enough of that shit considering that's all that's ever in current year vidya anymore. And I agree that the DM/PM leak is "wtf?!' worthy. But really? THAT'S the hill some of the users on that site want to die on? It's one thing to mock and ridicule the users that took part in the DM/PM chain for their stupid behavior, it's another to go on a fucking crusade and act like a vigilante of KF because THESE specific autists are the ones that crossed the line. And don't you DARE question them, or else you'd be accused of "troll shielding". It's not like the site has documented any other specific cows that has done much worse, especially recently (Ralph & the Schizo poster). But I guess politispers are on a higher level than an actual arson and a white trash gunt who treats the women he's around like shit. Who knew.
 
There are several (unfortunate) reasons why A&N is still around. One is that Null sees it as some sort of free speech platform. He believes Kiwifarms to be the ultimate bastion of free speech, when in reality it's a site based around laughing at funny people, however I don't think he always saw A&N this way.

I believe that A&N was originally established for search rankings. Null has infamously bragged about search rankings several times and how they have prevented cows from getting jobs, and search engines love when you link to other websites. A subforum dedicated entirely to linking back to news websites is a great way to boost a site in search rankings, therefore it's a believable purpose to start out as. Eventually over time it morphed in his head to some sort of free speech platform.

However this exact thing has now come back to bite him in the ass, there's an autistic war on his site about it, the A&N users are openly calling for a fucking war IRL, the users of the other parts of the site want the A&N users gone. There's shitflinging going on, DMs getting leaked, A&N users being made lolcows of, and of course, it incited the infamous glowpost. If diet coke man wants any chance of his website surviving he needs to figure out what the fuck to do with A&N, and fast.
 
This whole situation is so ridiculous. Yes, those guys are dumb for trying to lock down a PM chain to the extent they did and yes, MrJokerRager shouldn't have given out his email like that especially with all the stuff he had on it. But to go to these extents to track them down, and flipping out on any users who don't think a right winger who has some weird fetishes is thread worthy is just as dumb if not more.
Especially since from what I've seen, nothing that was said on the PM's was anything different from what'd those specific members, or members in general, would say on a public thread and two mods thought it was fine enough to chat with them.
Satan talking with SIGSEGV to just ask SIG if he could insult Maskull for pointing out how "whatever" this whole thing is, and then whining on the PM thread about it, and then going into the Kiwi Chat to fight with Maskull for "daring" to not think some random perv was the next BoxerShorts47 is absolutely pathetic.
Not even getting into the calls for one mod to have his mod status stripped for daring to even be a part of the PM Chain and telling JokerRager people were looking into his email, which is a rule for all members of the site that are about to get a Halal thread.
 
Personally, I don't think A&N is really that big of a problem. So a news forum is not a site that primarily talks about lolcows. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it was a bigger problem in 2019 due to the New Zealand shit where newfags came in droves to A&N and hacked it up. People whine now, but it was I'd say that problem was mostly solved. A&N got mods, threads became less cluttered with 1488'ers and moreso with right-wing normies, and most of the real spergtastic shit gets moved to Thunderdome.

The real problem with the site is that because of the 2019 shit as well as the hack, factions of the site have been created that are constantly going at it towards each other and Null isnt doing shit to bring people together. There are multiple cliques of people who go onto the Farms and now those cliques are starting to go at each other. It feels very separated. This isn't a problem that's uniquely political, but it's a problem with the community of the site. The whole thing about "users encouraging war" or "NULL FOSTERED AN ENVIRONMENT AND SIG'S POST AND BLAH BLAH" or whatever is a small little part of a molehill that gets made into a mountain and even then, very few if any do those. The site having T&H fags, A&N fags, Beauty Parlor fags, and chatfags constantly at each others' throats and then Null just sitting back and letting it happen is what really bothers me. He doesn't even try to reign them in or whatnot or take a position of leadership, he just lets it happen because as long as people are on his site, well, who cares.
