What are imageboards?
Imageboards are usually anonymous online spaces for a group of people to talk about any topics and mainly to post images on the boards, hence the name imageboard. Before imageboards, there were similar anonymous online spaces called textboards, which are like imageboards without images. Most notable imageboards would be 2chan (Japanese), 4chan, 8chan/8kun (now defunct), 7chan, lolcow.farm, and wizardchan.

Imageboards I know of:

• 4chan created by Christopher Pool aka moot when he was 15 in 2003. A lot of memes came from 4chan and various parts of the internet.
• 2chan Japanese Imageboard created in 1999. They really don't like it when a non East Asian goes on this site.
• 7chan got founded when former users of 4chan got tired of /b/tards on the site, so they flocked to 7chan. Founded in 2009.
• 8chan/8kun 8chan was an imageboard like 4chan, created in 2013. The 8chan url got shut down around 2019, and they had to create a newer url, 8kun.top. 8kun got shut down a couple of weeks ago. Mainly linked to authoritarian right/alt-rights.
• 420chan was created on the 20 April 2005. Basically an imageboard for potheads.
• 1chan imageboard about trains
• 28chan founded on the 19 August 2020, languages both in English and Spanish, but it's an Argentinean imageboard
• kind.moe. An imageboard full of kind and positive messages. Very different from the usual angry message on others.
• asherasgarden.net. Female-only imageboard full of radfems. Flocked right after admin-chan of lolcow.farm
• lolcow.farm Imageboard created by a male admin in 2014. Female only imageboard. Current admin became admin when she was 19. Users on this site are lolcows themselves, and admin-chan is a lolcow.
• 9chan.tw Jewsh owned this imageboard
• 0chan Imageboard on the Zeronet. very dead on there.
• bus-stop.net imageboard for relaxing and comfy talk. Images and posts are deleted after a day.
• afternoon.dynu.com Post Office in the title. Has another page with images on there
• choachan.cafe. Kpop imageboard. Has a funny tweet page I like going on
• 4-ch.net textboard that's been around for a while. I occasionally go on here.

Imageboards have become boring. No more interesting people, just the political, degenerated, and paranoid.
You can't just expose and fight corruption anymore. Now you also have to support national socialism and white supremacy. Using the word nigger is treated as some virtuous act.
You can't enjoy creating interesting software and discussing hacking. Now you deal with the paranoid schizophrenics who call you a faggot for using anything other than antiquated hardware with unnecessarily complex user environments and bash your creations because they weren't made in their specific language of choice.
No more fun without people going on about how shit their lives are and perpetuating a culture of defeatism and hopelessness, drowning themselves in porn and distractions to detract from how they truly feel.

When good communities have prospered they have died at the hands of malicious and incompetence. Hotwheels, Josh, and Jim acting in their own self-interests and in the process hurting tens of thousands of individuals. Moot dating a harmful individual and sacrificing the freedom of his board in return.

Imageboards are suffering from a plague, and it is these people. Unfunny and lacking creativity. Certainly, the world, at least the perception of it has become darker and more pessimistic, but that does not mean it has to come onto the internet, a place detached from real life.

There's also 8chan.se - A site that Mark, the previous mod for 8ch /v/, created as a bunker. It also has the usual /pol/ /b/ /t/ (tech board) etc... that you'd find in other places

There's Endchan, which I haven't been on in a while. From what I remember it was the place people from 8ch /pol/ were flocking to, but then decided not to because the mods over there were putting a stop to the acceleration posters because they thought they were feds/glowniggers, so people were crying bout "muh freedom of speech"

And there's nanochan but it's an TOR only site... don't know much about it

I wouldn't trust anyone related to 8chan. Every one of them is not to be trusted, especially if that's Jim's son. The idea of board moderators having persistence across imageboards is also really gay and is definitely the work of Josh/Hotwheels.

Endchan has a lot of technical problems that have existed for years and especially now the main administrator Odilitime has been completely missing. Some new person is posting with an Admin tag, and I'm not sure if its someone from 9chan since Josh "handed" it off to Endchan, but the site is not doing well. Thumbnails broke again recently in the catalogs. All the major boards have died and a lot of them left because of the previously mentioned technical problems. /librejp/ has gone to Sportschan, /tech/ died and spread across multiple different chans, /b/ is filled with newfags.
Should also mention that the same admins as Endchan ran mixtape.moe, and of course that's dead now too.

Nanochan seems pretty nice, albeit a bit slower than others. /g/ has a lot of faggots on it, and honestly its a pain in the ass to use with the turbo autists in every thread and a general lack of fun. A lot of pointless arguing and thread derails that never seem to be moderated.

You can use zzzchan for /v/ as it seems quite nice.

Julay.world (the site where /cow/ was on) had some minor drama regarding the /v/ on there and a bunch of newfags from 8kun shitting up the place and after a few board deletions and stuff they rebranded to alogs.theguntretort. I'm pretty sure there's an imageboard where most /g/ and some other anons went on called lainchan. There's also another splinter site called Prolikewoah iirc. Also there was a site where some /b/tards fled that was rife with loli and CP early on and got taken down fast but I can't remember the name other than that it wasn't 9chan and had a /b/ and /b2/ board. There's probably a bunch of other smaller splintered sites out there that have varying degrees of success because I know a few people tried making offshoot 8chan websites besides those mentioned only for them to become devoid of activity after a few days.

I never used Julay.world, but I remember reading about some datamining that happened and refused to touch it as a result. This was during the beginning of the "imageboard federation" and there was internal discussion about datamining and monetization schemes. That is why to this day Endchan has not joined any of it, and I still would be wary about it.
Lainchan has been around for a while and is obviously a Lain-styled /g/. Had literal teenage administrators and at one point as part of a "prank" deleted all of the data on the site. They did this with the idea they'd just bring it back immediately with a daily backup, but surprise! Both the backup and live site were on the same drive/partition! I've heard some moderation complaints about it, and for a /tech/ board its alright. Worth looking at.
Everything outside of this is small and recent, and you're taking risks with these sites. Very little light is shed on this, but there are some malicious people who spam CP on competing imageboards and report them immediately afterwards to deplatform them, and make dozens of different imageboards over the span of a month to "fresh start" every time it fails. If you spend any time on the sites where its spammed, you'll know what I'm taking about.

Pretty sure, iirc Patch also ran Bunkerchan which was a lefty/pol/ hugbox and that caused some /b/tards and /pol/fugees to hate them because of that.
