Popular social commentator Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted to the ongoing online controversy linking singer Chiké to Sandra Edoho, the estranged wife of media personality Frank Edoho.
The controversy gained momentum after Sandra publicly addressed allegations surrounding her failed marriage to Frank Edoho, while online rumours simultaneously linked her romantically to singer Chiké. Although none of the claims against Chiké have been officially confirmed, the situation has continued to dominate conversations across Nigerian social media spaces.
VDM, known for weighing in on trending celebrity controversies, shared his opinion in a viral video currently circulating online. According to him, the rumours could have long-term consequences for Chiké’s image and even affect one of the strongest parts of his music wedding career performances.
He explained that Chiké has built a reputation as one of the most sought-after wedding singers in Nigeria because of his romantic songs, calm personality, and emotional performances.
According to VDM, many brides often specifically request Chiké to perform at their weddings, with reports suggesting the singer charges millions of naira for premium appearances.
However, he argued that the current scandal may now create discomfort among some married men.
“Chiké, let me tell you the reality now. This matter between you, Frank Edoho, and his wife has cooled down online, but the real effect is about to start. Most of your bookings are wedding bookings,” VDM said.
He continued by suggesting that some husbands may begin reconsidering inviting the singer to private family celebrations because of the rumours surrounding him.
“Them go tell their husbands say one of my wishes na make Chiké perform for my wedding. But now, which man go hear all these rumours and still feels fully comfortable?” he added.
As reactions continued online, fans also noticed that Chiké appeared to restrict activity on his Instagram page, with many claiming his comment section was locked shortly after the controversy intensified. Some netizens later moved to X (formerly Twitter) to continue discussing the allegations directly under his posts.
While speaking further on the matter, VDM shifted focus to the temptations that often come with fame and celebrity status.
According to him, public figures constantly attract attention from different people, including married women, but he personally avoids getting involved in such situations because of the potential consequences attached.
“Popularity attracts all kinds of people to you. Single women, married women, even men sef. But one thing I don tell myself be say I no fit carry myself go remove married woman cloth. Wetin I dey find? The curse wey follow that thing too big,” he said.
VDM, however, stated that he would not criticize ordinary conversations or friendships between adults, but insisted that celebrities should exercise discipline and self-control to avoid situations capable of damaging reputations or relationships.
“I no go fault Chiké for talking to the woman, but if anything beyond that happened, then that one different. Sometimes na self-control save person for this popularity life,” he added.
Despite the ongoing online discussions, Chiké has not officially addressed the allegations directly, while Sandra Edoho maintains that she is free to associate with or date anyone following the end of her marriage.
The controversy continues to generate divided reactions online, with some defending Chiké and others questioning the impact such rumours may have on public perception moving forward.
