Russia Makes it Illegal to Change One's Gender

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law legislation that outlaws medical interventions aimed at changing the sex of a person as well as changing one's gender on official documents and public records. The only exception is medical intervention to treat congenital conditions.

The new legislation also voids marriages in which one person has changed their gender and bans transgender parents from becoming foster or adoptive parents. The recent anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is intended to stir hostility against the recent controversy and legislation regarding LGBTQ rights in the West and promote what it terms "traditional family values" endorsed by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Same sex marriages and "propaganda" aimed at promoting non-tradiational sexual relations among the population (minors and adults as well) has already been passed.
