The Background: Why Thousands Were Watching VDM's Return

Over the past few weeks, social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has found himself at the center of several high-profile political controversies.

The activist recently intensified his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, openly calling for greater voter participation ahead of the 2027 elections, questioning the government's handling of insecurity, and demanding stronger action against kidnappers and bandits operating across the country.

His confrontations with Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, combined with his remarks about voting Tinubu out in 2027, fueled widespread speculation online that authorities could move against him upon his return to Nigeria after a brief trip abroad.

As anticipation grew, supporters of the Ratel Movement reportedly mobilized to welcome him at the airport, with many claiming their presence was intended to prevent any potential arrest.

However, the dramatic arrival did not produce the outcome many had expected.

Ossai Ovie Success Weighs In

Political aide and public commentator Ossai Ovie Success has now criticized VeryDarkMan over the airport mobilization, arguing that the entire exercise was unnecessary.

In a statement shared online, Ossai claimed that VDM appeared to be expecting an arrest that never came and suggested that the activist may have hoped such a scenario would generate sympathy and further strengthen his anti-government narrative.

According to Ossai, no security agency showed any intention of arresting the activist upon arrival.

"Nobody Planned to Arrest Him"

Reacting to the situation, Ossai questioned the purpose of gathering supporters at the airport, insisting that if authorities genuinely wanted to detain someone, a crowd would not be able to stop them.

He wrote:

"VeryDarkMan mobilized people to come to the airport to protect him from arrest, but he was in for a shock: nobody planned to arrest him."

According to Ossai, the activist expected the situation to become a major national story but was instead met with silence from authorities.

"He wanted to be arrested to trend and twist the narrative to look like he was being targeted for speaking against Tinubu's second-term bid."

"If They Wanted Him, They Would Have Arrested Him"

The political aide further argued that security agencies possess sufficient authority and resources to arrest anyone they lawfully choose to investigate.

He maintained that no amount of public support at the airport would have prevented such an action if authorities truly intended to carry it out.

"But let it be known: if the authorities wanted to arrest VeryDarkMan, they would arrest him. None of the people he mobilized would have stopped it."

Ossai concluded his remarks by expressing disappointment over what he viewed as unnecessary drama surrounding the activist's return.

"I am disappointed."

A Divided Public Reaction

As expected, the comments generated mixed reactions online.

Supporters of VDM argued that the airport turnout was less about preventing an arrest and more about showing solidarity with an activist many believe has consistently spoken out on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

Others pointed out that VDM has previously faced arrests and legal battles, making concerns about another possible detention understandable.

Critics, however, sided with Ossai, arguing that the airport gathering created unnecessary tension and contributed to speculation without any evidence that security agencies planned to take action.

The debate highlights VDM's growing influence in Nigeria's political and social conversations, where nearly every move he makes now attracts national attention and strong reactions from both supporters and opponents.
