In other countries 16 yos can consent because it's easier that way. Flat 16 years and they can do what they want without a bunch of Romeo and juliet laws. Most 16 yo's are not going out and consenting to 25+ yo's but if they are then that's their business in the eyes of the law of many countries and I agree. I've lived in one of these countries and that was a widely accepted common view. I think America has it too complicated and much of the world does not agree with 18 to consent 21 to drink/smoke.

I am a woman and I'm just saying 16 yo's are going to want to bang the school senior at 18 and I don't think the 18yo should go to prison for it or we need dozens of romeo/juliet laws. If a 16 yo is hella down for a 25 year old and they both consent that's legal in basically all parts of the world except the US. Doesn't mean I think that's a good relationship but I don't think we need to police consenting relationships. We let 16 yos drive, work, leave school but they can't have sex? Other countries are right on this.

So you're ok with a 16 year old driving, working and leaving school but not having a consenting relationship that might not last more than a few days or weeks? It's not like they aren't already doing this, they just don't talk about it and hide it because it's illegal. Maybe if they talked about it more we'd be able to educate them on why these aren't good relationships. But why would they if their lover would get arrested? You seem to be looking at this like this gives all 16 yo a free pass to do this (and as if that many want to), but in other countries its still looked down upon to date that much younger. You, in the grand scheme of the world, are in the minority opinion. They prefer not to legislate on what 16 year olds are up to.

It's simple you just aren't understanding any part of the nuance. It's similar to why I wouldn't want an outright ban on prostitution. It's not to benefit the pimps, it's to make sure the prostitutes get the safety/education they need to escape that without punishment.
