Kiwifarms Gossip & Slap Fights Kiwi Farms Thread

These threads cover general gossip and interacting with Kiwifarms (openly calling them out).
Since people don't know since it's so sudden

Onions are impervious to random updates that totally aren't fucked up code, and weird meme but ok

b-but kengle is the incompetent one who can't run a site
Nightly database fuckups are a kiwi feature, it's a feature
Null's response is actually reasonable.

Editing the site live is on me but whatever, in the industry we call it "agile development". Oh no ratings are fuckywucky for a few hours. What a shame.

The issue with the database errors is that the site's database is incredibly large and active. It was on a larger disk, but that large disk couldn't handle the load, so I've moved it to NVMe, which is much faster but that's much much smaller. It runs out of space because I do backups pretty frequently and those consume disk space. These are the problems that come with running a very large site. Usually a company can hire people to deal with them, but it's just me and whoever happens to be around that I trust enough to help.

Agile development (just like all other software development paradigms) is all about delivering a product that meets the needs of the client/end-users. Fucking around with reactions just because the idea popped into your head isn't what I'd consider "meeting the needs of end-users," but maybe that's just me.

I wasn't really out to say that his idea was a bad one, it's more that trying to pass it off as "agile development" sort of rubbed me the wrong way and triggered my autism. Not sure what he's referring to with this part, though:

Unless he means that he's switching the site font to Comic Sans like I suggested as a joke one time, I can't really think of any real criticisms I've made about the forum that can be fixed with PHP alone.

As for the "which is it" question, Josh is making the mistake of asking other people to decide what he wants to do with the site. It's not up to other people to dictate whether he should experiment with things or adopt an attitude of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" for Kiwi Farms. The fact that he's acting like this over something as small as getting different feedback from different people is kind of concerning.

Wrong, democracy rules.

In fact, him answering like this is exactly like most lolcows do and it would be easier if he just comes in here to respond, be brave and leave the box joshy

Is he still going on about the fedpost that I went too far with? For fucks sake, I didn't even threaten to kill people, just some Demonrats. Nigger all you had to do that day was respond to an email, I'm the one who had a pair of FBI agents show up at my door that night. Get some fucking perspective, or I'm going to book a flight to Serbia and show you what real misery is like (sexually).

I think his response is correct, in that, getting people engaged is more difficult than messing with technical bullshit. the human factors side of running the forum has always been his biggest challenge because he doesn't know how to deal with people or relate to people.

way back when katsu was around, it suggested to null that he just leave all interpersonal stuff to other staff because of how he deals with people. his reaction was to tell katsu to fuck off because he should be able to run his site how he wants. which is fair, but by the same token, he has to accept that his style of management runs people off when they deal with him.

so when he has people help him with site projects or become staff, eventually they experience his immature, pissy nature, and fid that their interest in helping out isn't worth the effort and headache.

So autism is Null's worst enemy when it comes to running the site.
One of the biggest things that I think he struggles with is that he does not own the community.

Kiwi Farms is the largest property in the community. It houses basically all the niche internet comedy and drama that we all have come to know and love. The site has the capacity and features to make it simple for about anyone to sign on and drop basically anything they want. But that doesn't make the site itself the community.

The community is the people who use it. Those people get engaged because of the content, but stick around and become addicted to the site because of the other people using it. Null becomes super-mega upset when he sees people using other sites or tools such as discord because he thinks people should only be using KF to communicate, period.

Its quite possessive that he gets like that, and its also why he gets very upset when people speak with banned users off-site. There is a thread in supporters where he throws a tantrum about people talking offsite to banned users.

So while he owns KF, he doesn't, and cannot ever, own the community. And his lack of ability to control in that circumstance frustrates him to no end because that means people have options when he shows his stripes.

Since we're apparently doing some autistic cross site communication in this thread now, I guess I'll respond to this:

I accepted the offer because I thought becoming a janny would be funny. That's really all there is to it. Also someone tell Null to check his email lol.
