1. If your kid has religious dietary needs, your responsibility.

2. Kosher just means acceptable for Jews to eat. I note there isn't a shortage of Halal food (it's the same thing). Also, there is plenty of "kosher" food that you can find on the "Gentile" menu.

It's not the same thing.

However, halal and kosher are not the same thing, as they have different rules and sources of authority345. Halal regulations are based on the Quran, the Muslim holy book, while kosher regulations are based on the Torah, the Jewish holy book3. Some examples of the differences between halal and kosher are the types of animals that are allowed, the methods of slaughtering them, and the use of alcohol and dairy products25. Some Muslims may rely on kosher certification to inform them that meat is halal, but kosher does not equal halal4.

Ergo: It's ok for Jews to eat. It basically comes down to the same Abrahamic laws. Pork is out, Beef has to be slaughtered with the same aim. However, most food is Kosher/Halal (allowed to be eaten).
