"Afghan migrants seven times more likely to commit sex crimes than Britons"

"Afghans are seven times more likely to be convicted of sex crimes than Britons, analysis suggests.
The research showed that people who described themselves as Afghans accounted for 409 sex offences – or 0.39 per cent of the total – during a 15-year period.
The analysis by The Economist focused on the three years from 2020 to 2022, the most recent for which data were available.
After population numbers had been taken into account, and the statistics standardised for age and sex, the rate of sex crimes committed by Afghans was seven times that of people who described themselves as British, the analysis showed.
It was based on Ministry of Justice (MoJ) data for cautions and convictions in England and Wales, split by offenders’ nationality, which were obtained under freedom of information laws by Oxford University’s Migration Observatory.
The analysis reflects data first published by The Telegraph, which showed that the number of sexual offence convictions of foreign nationals had increased by 62 per cent in the four years to 2024.
In these figures, foreign nationals accounted for one in seven (14.1 per cent) of sexual offence convictions in 2024, including rapes.
The rate of increase from 2021 to 2024 was higher than for British nationals, whose sex offence convictions rose by 39.3 per cent over the same period, according to the MoJ figures."

"It comes after three Afghan nationals were jailed this month at Bristol Crown Court for raping a 17-year-old girl whom they had groomed on Snapchat and plied with alcohol. They fled to France in a lorry before being returned to Britain by the French authorities.
The Home Office has issued a nine-page booklet of guidance for migrants explaining what rape is and how they must abide by the UK’s “clear and strict” laws that both people must agree to sex or sexual contact of any kind."

"Campaigners are currently embroiled in legal action with the MoJ over its refusal to publish data revealing the full scale of foreign offending in England and Wales from 2018 to 2024.
The Economist used data already produced by the MoJ which provided figures for prosecutions and convictions by age, sex and ethnicity.
It showed Afghan nationals had been convicted of 102 sex crimes between 2022 and 2024. The Economist averaged its population estimate over those three years, using census data for Afghan passport holders in England and Wales and those who did not have a passport but said they were Afghan. It gave a total population of 21,400.
The analysis also took account of the 38,000 Afghans who came to Britain after the Taliban seized Kabul, giving a total of 45,000 because of the number who might have left the UK or become British citizens.
This produced the sex-crime rate seven times that of British nationals. However, The Economist said the number was “still uncertain”, adding: “It may be skewed by a few serial offenders, by quirks in reporting and detection rates for such crimes.”

"Middle Eastern and North African foreign nationals were three times more likely to be convicted of sex crimes than Britons, and sub-Saharan Africans were two times more likely, according to the analysis. Those from the EU and East Asia were less likely to commit crimes than Britons.
“Just as large differences in conviction rates exist among British citizens, they will be present across different nationalities, too,” said Ben Brindle of the Migration Observatory."

"The Observatory qualified its figures by noting that offence categories were very broad such that sexual offences included rape, sexual assault, indecent exposure, cyber-flashing and other sex crimes.
An offender could also be counted multiple times in the convictions data if they had sentencing occasions in more than one year, or more than one occasion in a year"

Middle Eastern and North African foreign nationals were three times more likely to be convicted of sex crimes than Britons, and sub-Saharan Africans were two times more likely, according to the analysis.
