I'm a lurker for KF for almost a year now. I wasn't interested into making an account until the Keffals thread was made. However, i can't make an account without an invitation code. Like it's that necessary???

Not really. He did mess up, but they were able to recover, the site was ended by the live-streamed shootings. To give you the lore:

Back in the day 8chan was set up by a crippled man called Frederick Brennan, also known as Hotwheels. It allowed a lot of content too extreme for 4chan, for example #GamerGate related content. Josh was taken on staff and commissioned with $12,000 to upgrade the site. This led to 8chan developing the usual problems that follow Josh including humongous amounts of child pornography.

Josh was trying to upgrade the software 8chan used to be an enterprise, clustered / web-farmed scalable solution. But this is Josh - he has some basic, 'adequate' knowledge of PHP. His ambitions exceeded his technical abilities and the project failed. In fact Hotwheels wrote a massive hit-piece on Josh on Medium which has been taken down, but which was archived: Infinity Never: The sad case of the imageboard software that could but never will.

8chan users were especially upset that the all the IP addresses for users of the beta of Infinity Next were leaked, including the addresses of viewers and posters on the many child pornography boards. They were naturally antsy about the FBI being able to just browse their addresses without a warrant.

All of that being said, when 8chan had a new owner, Jim Watkins, he cleaned it up and removed the child pornography. Josh lived in fear of being murdered and fed to Jim's pigs on his pig farm. For a time 8chan thrived as the shadow of the evil pedophile lord was banished by Jim. What did for 8chan was being used for repeated live-streamings of mass shootings conducted by its users leading to Jim being brought before the US House of Representatives, the US Homeland Security Committee: Online providers knock 8chan offline after mass shooting.

Jim was not to be counted out, however, and cleverly cooperated with the committee to the extent they praised him after he pointed out 8chan took the livestream down much faster than Facebook and basically made Mark Zuckerberg and big tech look like douches. He relaunched, branding as 8kun. It's basically the same but without /pol/ by that name, although /pnd/ is a close substitute.

Josh was hired after Infinity Next, specifically after the move.
Up and till the move he kept crashing the site itself repeatedly trying to test Infinity Next.
No one would actually post on Infinity Next because everyone thought it had too many trackers and privacy vulnerabilities, the one time someone did it crashed Infinity Next. Shout out to the sad-posters who sad-posted Infinity to death.

It got so bad at a point people started begging Brennan to fire him because he kept fucking up the main site.
Brennan eventually did fire him after the failed moved attempt for promoting pedophillia, the infamous text-only board was on Infinity Next, and he was a complete fuck up with his code. For a lot 8ch posters he's responsible for posts being duplicated, or just not showing up, and random black-outs for the site.

Still he wasn't the reason the site died, he's just one problem from a list.
8chan's fall is not just one retard but like twenty. I'm going to give some highlights, and reasons possibly why that are charitable to Brennan
  • They allowed TOR and every VPN to post, this meant you had a lot bad-actors and ban evaders after awhile.
    • They rarely ever banned an IP forever because a lot global volunteers didn't want to punish everyone for the ill actions of a few.
    • Brennan himself wanted privacy for everyone, and this meant Volunteers would have to be in over-drive sometimes.
  • They allowed some of the worse boards to stay up, like /baphomet/
    • Some might say /baphomet/ was useful at the time, while one side did their best with PR the other side would just dox some journalists SSN.
    • Brennan at the time actually lost control of his own site and couldn't remove it.
  • Brennan lost control of his server because Jim Watkins came up to him and said: "Bro. I will pay for everything, I will give you everything, just move over here and host it from our servers."
    • Hotwheels didn't realize till far later he could no longer access his own server and was locked out.
  • They would actively manipulate their posters into narratives to deflect damage.
    • Mark, board owner of /v/, actually would blame random generals for any shitposting only to then retract his statement a day later, usually saying: "Whoopsie, I just realized it was a vpn poster. It wasn't them."
    • This actually happened to three generals and every time people would shit on Mark in said generals.
      • Planet Side 2's general has a funny story where when Mark started playing some brave warriors switched from TR to NC with the sole goal of killing Mark repeatedly till he rage quit. They got banned by Mark for this.

Kiwi Farms is ending every day.
They're increasingly paranoid, in no small part due to the sock puppet chads.
They were never nice but they're actively shitty to genuine new users.
Think of it like an organism.
No new cells allowed to grow, because they're consumed by aggressive cancer.
Unless Josh finds his golden parachute, the shit is going to continue longer than hoped for, but a community that can't grow is a dying community.
Personally, instead of being a faggot Liz Dong Gong kiss ass, the best thing you can do is to increase the organic communities paranoia.
Don't take janny actions lying down. Go back. Increase hostility. Pretend to be banned users the dogpile crew is ravenous to find. Get your account past janny approval vetting, then just shit on the narrative they're trying to to push. Make it clear to new users that you have to listen and nod along to MATI, otherwise you're going in the trash.
That's the way we win, not being a fucking faggot and harassing their hosts.
