Fresh drama appears to be brewing between controversial social commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and Nigerian Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti after both personalities reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram.
The unexpected social media move has sparked speculation online, with many Nigerians wondering whether a fallout has quietly developed between the two outspoken figures who previously appeared to share a close public relationship.
The development comes amid VeryDarkMan’s ongoing legal battle with cryptocurrency businessman Linus Williams, popularly known as Blord, a case that has continued to dominate conversations across social media platforms.
Seun Kuti’s “Rat” Comment Sparks Reactions
Tensions escalated after Seun Kuti shared a controversial Instagram post seemingly directed at VDM’s loyal fanbase, known as the “Ratels.”
In the post, Seun mocked the name and openly referred to the group as “rats.”
“You are rats, not ratels. Why una dey disguise?” Seun Kuti wrote.
The statement immediately triggered reactions online, especially among VDM supporters, many of whom viewed the comment as disrespectful and unnecessary.
Although neither Seun Kuti nor VDM has officially explained the reason behind the Instagram unfollowing, many social media users now believe there may be underlying tensions between both personalities.
Their Relationship Before the Fallout
The situation has surprised many fans because VDM had previously shown strong public support for Seun Kuti during his online clash with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid.
At the time, VDM accused Wizkid of allegedly disrespecting the legacy of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Seun’s late father.
The alliance between both men became even more visible after viral photos surfaced online showing Seun Kuti and VeryDarkMan together at Fela Kuti’s gravesite.
The photos sparked heavy reactions online after reports claimed the pair participated in traditional rites involving libation pouring and ram slaughtering at the shrine.
While critics interpreted the act differently and linked it to the ongoing Wizkid controversy, supporters defended it as a cultural and spiritual tribute to Fela’s memory and Afrobeat heritage.
VDM later addressed the backlash, insisting that the visit was deeply personal and intended solely to honour Fela Kuti’s spirit and legacy.
Social Media Reactions
Since news of the Instagram unfollowing surfaced, reactions online have remained divided.
Some users believe the situation may simply be playful online banter blown out of proportion by fans, while others suspect deeper disagreements may have emerged behind the scenes.
Many VDM supporters also accused Seun Kuti of mocking a fanbase that had strongly defended him during his online battles.
Others argued that celebrity friendships built around social media controversies often collapse quickly once personal interests begin to clash.
As of the time of writing, neither Seun Kuti nor VeryDarkMan has officially confirmed whether they are currently in conflict.
However, with both personalities known for speaking openly online, many Nigerians believe it may only be a matter of time before one of them publicly addresses the growing speculation.
