Look at how cool the Lafette mount is.
It has an overhead firing mechanism, allowing you to fire from a foxhole underneath the mount,
and it also allowed the user set a fixed elevation and horizontal range that it could sweep across controlled via the Suchfeuergerät (searchfire mechanism).
Basically, you set it where you want it, and you can sweep it across without worrying about it going up or down.
It could also be configured to stand to fire like the Dreibein 34/42. (Pictured left, Lafette with fliegerdreibein pictured right.)
