Pokemon protagonist Ash Ketchum and his loyal sidekick Pikachu are leaving the show after 25 years.

It comes after the character fulfilled his dream to "be the very best, like no one ever was" and became the top trainer in the world.

It came after years of defeats and upset for the perpetual 10-year-old during the anime franchise, which features over 900 animal-like characters called Pokemon which can be caught, trained and used to battle one another.

Now, the next series of the anime show will focus on dual protagonists named Liko and Roy, joined by three Paldea starter Pokemon.

Sarah Natochenny, said it was "an extraordinary privilege" to have voiced the English version of Ketchum and other characters since 2006.

"No matter what lies beyond his final chapter, he'll live forever in the hearts of many generations to come," she tweeted.

"I'll keep him present for all of us in every way I can."

Good riddance they fucked up ashs redesign, and Pikachu looks like a goon.

Thank God. He's been stuck in limbo as a 9 year old for over 20 years. This is almost as bad as the Simpsons at this point. The continuity is so snarled its beyond repair, all just to keep him perpetually stuck in one place. His pokemon, Pikachu in particular, get stronger through the season and then seemingly de-level in order to be challenged by common threats the next time. He releases his best pokemon, or forgets about them, inevitably. I know I'm overthinking this but it just really annoys me when shows pass on the opportunity to tell a compelling story with progress in favor of this static limbo nonsense.

Also, even when I was an impressionable kid of about Ash's age, playing Pokemon and watching the show, I couldn't stand him. He was so arrogant and obnoxious, and so irredeemably dumb that I found it hard to watch at time. I kept asking myself at every turn, why is this dumb self-centered kid treated like he's so special? He was supposed to represent the protagonist of the games, and yet is a poor mockery of Red. Rather than making a competing team of the best Pokemon and challenging the Elite Four, he still doesn't even understand how types and evolutions work by the time he gets all of the badges. That's probably because he got half of them by doing stupid errands and making friends rather than actually earning them with skill.

Fuck I feel autistic. I promise I haven't watched that show since the gen 1 era but I still remember all of this like it was yesterday.

Yes, ash is unbearable in gen 1. He gets better in later gens, but who will keep track on this anime for so fucking long?
