That was my thought. Remember, she said she can't bank normally due to having a Russian bank account, so perhaps this is a way relatives in Russia can send her money bypassing the sanctions that block RU banks from interacting with the outside world.

Or perhaps this is how her British employer pays her to avoid having to interact with a RU bank-account and getting put on some list for "doing business with Russians"?

I've always assumed she's lying and trying to explain why she doesn't have access to the supposed fortune she's sitting on. She has bank account(s) but doesn't want to show balances because it'll expose her lie.
 
She can't bank because she's a British schizo who identifies as Russian and banks won't accept fake IDs. Not that banks are very useful anyway if you don't have checks to cash because you don't have a job.
