Algeria’s Independence Day is July 5th, 2024 and marks the 62nd anniversary of Algeria’s independence from France. With the coming French elections from June 30th to July 7th, there could be serious trouble if Marine LePen’s Rassemblement National Party comes to power. The original founder was Jean-Marie LePen who as a paratrooper in the Battle of Algiers (1957). He has been implicated in torture and who recruited a number of former members of the OAS (Organization of the Secret Army) who opposed Algeria’s independence from France. The movement is overrepresented in a number of towns in Southern France which have a high concentration of people born in France Algeria during French rule.
