Why are most repeat image loads cache misses on this site?

I view a thread once, and then I view it again 5 minutes later. The images have to download from the server both times.

I think they should be loaded from browser cache the second time around. Why isn't this the case?

Xenoforo is just shit software, should have used vBulletin.

It's noticeable too when picking a reaction image, 2/3 are cached but it has to load in the last 1/3 every time. Part of the rustic Web 1.0 charm.
